From the counter to pickup, a wash-and-fold order runs on three clocks — same-day, 24-48 hours, 48-72 hours — and on weight: kilograms in, kilograms billed.
The same-day window is real but narrow. A bag dropped before roughly 10:00-11:00 usually comes back the same day, because a wash-dry-fold cycle fits inside one working shift. Miss the cut-off and the order slides into the standard window: 24-48 hours from drop-off to pickup. Dry cleaning is a different service on a different clock — 48-72 hours — and no morning drop-off changes that.
Weight is the unit of the whole transaction. Services quote per kilogram (or per pound) and set a minimum order, typically 2-5 kg (5-10 lb). A bag that weighs less than the minimum is billed at the minimum, so a single shirt and two T-shirts cost the same as a full small bag. Weighing happens at the counter, in front of you, and the ticket shows the billed weight.
On narrow screens, swipe or scroll the plate sideways.
Machine size decides what fits in one cycle. Domestic drums run 6-10 kg; commercial machines run 12-24 kg. A king-size duvet weighs about 2-4 kg and its cover 1.5-2 kg — the set is light enough for a home drum on the scale, but far too bulky to tumble, so bedding belongs in a 12 kg+ machine where it can move, rinse and dry evenly.
Splitting the bag by temperature saves a second trip. Whites and cotton workwear wash at 60 °C, coloured cotton at 30-40 °C, and wool or silk never above 30 °C — a mixed bag forces the whole load down to its gentlest item. The temperatures-by-fabric page details the ladder and the protein-stain rule.
Anything structured, lined or delicate may need the dry-cleaning route instead, with its 48-72 hour return — the dry-cleaning-vs-washing page maps garment to method. For everything else, drop off before the morning cut-off when speed matters, and expect the standard window when it does not.
